Use Breadcrumb Navigation

Guides users on using breadcrumb navigation to quickly understand the hierarchy of pages and navigate efficiently.

Learn how to navigate between pages in your Notion workspace using the sidebar. The sidebar is your primary navigation hub, allowing you to quickly access any page in your workspace.

Understanding the Sidebar

Notion's sidebar organizes your pages into different sections including Private (pages only you can see), Shared (pages shared with specific people), and Teamspaces (collaborative spaces for team members). This organization helps you quickly locate the pages you need.

Before navigating between individual pages, ensure you're in your main workspace by accessing Notion through your browser or desktop app. The sidebar will be visible on the left side of your screen.

1

In the sidebar, locate the page you want to open. Pages are organized in sections like Private or Shared. Click on the page name to navigate to it. In this example, we're clicking on a page titled "NEW PAGE3".

Once you click on a page, it will open in the main content area. The page title appears at the top, and you can see any content, blocks, or formatting that exists on the page. If the page is empty, you'll see placeholder text and options to add content.

3

To navigate to a different page, simply click on another page name in the sidebar. Here we're clicking on "new page2" to switch to that page. The sidebar remains accessible, allowing you to quickly switch between pages.

4

Continue navigating between pages by clicking on any page name in the sidebar. In this step, we're clicking on "New page" to access yet another page. This pattern allows you to quickly move between all pages in your workspace.

  • Use the search function at the top of the sidebar to quickly find specific pages
  • Favorite frequently accessed pages to keep them at the top of your sidebar for quick access
  • Organize your pages using drag and drop to create a structure that makes sense for your workflow
  • Use keyboard shortcuts like Cmd/Ctrl + P to open the quick switcher for even faster navigation

If you have many pages, consider creating sub-pages or using databases to organize your content. This keeps your sidebar clean and makes navigation more efficient.

Understanding Page Organization

Pages in your sidebar are organized into different sections based on their sharing settings and ownership:

  • Private: Pages that only you can access and edit
  • Shared: Pages you've shared with specific individuals or groups
  • Teamspaces: Collaborative spaces visible to all team members in your workspace

This organization system helps you maintain control over your content while enabling effective collaboration with team members.
